Lights off at night?

I received this email from County Councillor Graham Plant which may be of interest to you.

Street lighting policy – introduction of part night lighting List of Parishes/Towns who would be affected by the proposal

Norfolk County Council will soon be considering whether to allow part night lighting to be introduced. This change would enable lights to be switched off from approximately midnight to 5am (or 1am to 6am during British Summer Time).

If this change is agreed, we expect to start introducing part night lighting across the county in the next few months. We are proposing to do this by fitting part night cells to some of the new lights being installed as part of the replacement programme or during planned maintenance. This would affect some, or all, of the lights in the areas listed below.

Welcome to My Blog

Thanks for taking the time to pop over to this site to read about my activites as a Parish Councillor.

For those of you who do not know me, my name is Mark Thompson and I have been a Borough Councillor for Belton, Browston, Burgh Castle, Fritton and St. Olaves since February 2000.

I have previously served as a Parish Councillor on the Burgh Castle Parish Council from 2001 - 2006. During that time I served as Chairman for 4 years. I left the council when I moved out of the village.

I recently returned to the council after a number of councillors retired over a period of months. I offered myself as a candidate for selection and was more than happy to accept a position.

I have no intention of standing again as Chairman as that role is in the very capable hands of Cllr. Trevor Greenacre. I do intend to be as active as I possibly can be, respond to all summonses to meetings and make myself accessible to as many residents as possible.

I make use of the micro-blogging site Twitter and will be posting regular updates as to my activities. I welcome all feedback and would like to see as many of you as possible at the meetings of the council which occur 2nd Monday in the month at the Burgh Castle Village Hall.

My reply to County Highways

The Clerk to the Council received the following email

Dear Mrs Knowles

The Norfolk County Council Highway Inspector will soon be conducting her scheduled routine highway safety inspection in your parish, Burgh Castle.
If you have any highway safety issues for her attention, please contact us at highways@norfolk.gov.uk or telephone us on 0344 xxx xxxx

I was asked for my response and I now provide that for your consideration:

I would ask that:

  • The verges are kept trimmed to aid visibility (especially at Lords Lane / Mill Road junction, and the junctions of Back Lane / High Road),
  • The drains are kept clear to aid surface water dispersal during periods of excessively heavy rain and the margins of the highway are in good order to prevent buses / lorries causing them to crumble further.
  • Can I also ask that the issue of parking on double yellow lines is brought to their attention and that thehighways dept liaise with the Police in order to tackle this menace?
  • Once again, speeding is (as always in rural villages) an ongoing pestilence in our village and we, as a Council, would welcome their input as highway engineers beyond the normal parroting of "that's an enforcement issue".
