My reply to County Highways

The Clerk to the Council received the following email

Dear Mrs Knowles

The Norfolk County Council Highway Inspector will soon be conducting her scheduled routine highway safety inspection in your parish, Burgh Castle.
If you have any highway safety issues for her attention, please contact us at highways@norfolk.gov.uk or telephone us on 0344 xxx xxxx

I was asked for my response and I now provide that for your consideration:

I would ask that:

  • The verges are kept trimmed to aid visibility (especially at Lords Lane / Mill Road junction, and the junctions of Back Lane / High Road),
  • The drains are kept clear to aid surface water dispersal during periods of excessively heavy rain and the margins of the highway are in good order to prevent buses / lorries causing them to crumble further.
  • Can I also ask that the issue of parking on double yellow lines is brought to their attention and that thehighways dept liaise with the Police in order to tackle this menace?
  • Once again, speeding is (as always in rural villages) an ongoing pestilence in our village and we, as a Council, would welcome their input as highway engineers beyond the normal parroting of "that's an enforcement issue".
